The Hope For The Warriors® A Warrior's Wish® Program supports active duty service members, veterans, and their families by granting Wishes.
In January 2012, Hope For The Warriors® fulfilled a Wish for a couple in Missouri. In 2004, this sailor was deployed to Iraq with the Navy Seabees. While he stood on a ladder and performed a security sweep, his unit came under fire and he plummeted to the ground. The fall resulted in severe head trauma and back injuries in addition to post-traumatic stress disorder.
He retired in August 2005 after more than 30 years of service and although he is able to walk with a cane, he struggles with mobility. Their home had a bathtub/shower combination but he could not shower without assistance from his wife. Even with her help, he suffered several falls.
The couple eventually decided that shower use had become too dangerous. Three times per week, the couple would drive 45 minutes each way to shower at the closest YMCA.
After months of traveling to the YMCA, the couple turned to Hope For The Warriors® with the Wish to renovate their bathroom to include a safer shower. Hope For The Warriors® proudly approved this Wish!
